Best On Running Shoes Roundup [MAY 2024]
Nice video! Would this be also comfortable for long walks or tavel?
Thank you! No, it’s better as a speed training or racing shoe due to the carbon plate. If you like the look of it, I’d recommend the Rebel 4 instead: ruclips.net/video/LeGJcmH1O48/видео.htmlsi=ADXjbKYb359kVZwI
thank you for not narrating the video while running. anyone that makes a video like that is a delusional boomer that doesn't understand how media works. no one want to see or listen to that crap
I broke my ankle, the low area around the ankle is very comfortable, hoping the j adds to support and makes walking easier
Oh no, hope you recover fast! These should be a good choice for you with the low collar walls, articulated heel counter and stability J frame 👍🏼
Thanks for this review!! Cloudultra 2s are one of my all-time favorite running shoes. I run a combo of this terrain and pavement.
Thanks for watching! They’re a really solid trail shoe 👍🏼😊
Total. Garbage.
This thing doesn’t like healstrikes at all some runners prefer to or tend to when tired .. for all of them loock else where but for a consistent for or mid foot striker It’s an absolute rocket!!
Exactly, you should try the Vaporfly 3, it’s horrendous for heel strikers with stability issues! lol. Cielo X1 all the way for most runners 👍🏼
This is the exact kind of review I’m looking for! I want one that can carry me, my toddler and possibly my husband. Thank you!
You’re welcome! Glad it helped
Looks diffferent from the one I bought today in Korea........ Different products in each country...
Different how? Colorway, or design?
Most of shoes are not in wide, I have normal width but definitely not narrow to say, some people said these fit tight. Would you recommend wide ? Or did these fit good ? Awesome review !
Thank you! These are definitely true to size- if you have normal width feet, go with your usual sizing in the normal width. More details here: www.trailandkale.com/gear/new-balance-1080-v13-review/
If you have any questions at all, please share them here, and if you need a running shoe for specific requirements, let me know your situation and I'll get you hooked up with the best running shoes for you! Thanks for watching! - Helen
Hi! I love your reviews, thanks a lot for that! I was wondering, what are your favorite "road to trail" shoes? Like the kind of shoe you can bring on holidays to hike, trail run, run on roads, and wear in the city :)
I think I’m going to have to say the Peg Trail 5 right now! It’s the one I’d certainly choose. I’m actually working on a roundup of my favorite road to trail hybrid shoes this week which will drop on www.trailandkale.com in a few days :)
@@trailandkale Thanks ! Can't wait to see that :)
Zegama 2 or Pegasus trail 5 for road running/hiking?
Hmm, that’s a tough one - I’d say go with the Zegama 2 if you prefer a lower drop and hike technical trails, it also has zoomx in the midsole making it better for road runs
@@trailandkale Thank you for the reply :)
@kaishunider4110 you’re welcome! ✌🏼
Phantasm 2 - a fine shoe!
It is! Such sleakness!
I live in Houston and it’s hot here. Was thinking about buying these shoes for a trip to the Oregon coast tomorrow…and I need new trail runners anyways. It’s between these or the Brooks Caldera 7! I’m a bit wider on the foot size 12 and 6’ 220 lbs…bigger guy and have two repaired torn ACLs so I need a supportive shoe. I do jog/run in them but really buying them more at trail walkers / light hiking shoes that I can also wear around the city while walking. Which ones should I get between these the Brooks Caldera 7 or any others you might recommend for me? Just liked and subscribed…great video! I don’t run over a 5K and again looking for just a more supportive trail shoe and something versatile for the city and/or gym after being on trails during the day. Really love the look of the Nike Zagama 2 but worried about the breath ability you mentioned as I do live in HTX!
Hey, thanks for the sub! The Caldera 7 may be a better fit for you! It's definitely more breathable and has a wider fit, and also footprint underneath which gives it nice stability. It also has plenty of cushioning in the midsole which you'll appreciate. Hope that helps! -Alastair
@@trailandkale so guess what I ended up buying and they look (and feel awesome for what I need)?!? Believe it or not the Caldera 7’s felt narrow (despite the reviews) and I wasn’t impressed overall. I ended up getting a brand I’ve never heard of called Karhu Ikoni Trail 1.0 (white version or “barely blue / horizon blue)…these things look and feel awesome. Never heard of the brand till I saw them in the Fleet Feet store in Sugar Land, TX today. I’m in love 😍
That’s a new one on me! I’ll have to look into the brand! Glad you found the perfect shoe just in time for your trip!
@@trailandkale Finnish brand that’s been around since 1916. Never heard of them until today. Love the lighter color way and it feels so nice so far.
Thanks for sharing! I feel like I should have heard of them before! lol will keep an eye out for them
From my experience, La Sportiva has been my favorite brand for descending steep technical terrain, with the Akasha being on top because of the cushioning. I've recently taken the Agility Peak 5, the Prodigio, and the Xodus Ultra out on the same trails and none of them can perform as well as the Akasha coming down miles of steep rocky terrain. But for everything else the Prodigio is my new favorite.
Have you tried speedgoat 6 or MTL Long Sky 2 Matryx yet? Damn they’re good on technical
@@trailandkale I haven't but the Long Sky 2 is definitely one I'd like to try. I haven't run in a Speedgoat since the second but it did pretty darn well. I did just pick up the Kiger 9 for $50 and hope to give it the descent test this week. The issue for me is my foot moving around n the toe box when it gets crazy steep and rocky for miles on end. Definitely not runnable trails but they are part of my long runs into the mountains.
@victorystone1984 yeah give that Long Sky 2 matryx a try - so awesome! Kiger 9 is a nice comfortable shoe, the only main downside for me was the outsole traction. It’s still on Nike’s old compound (not ATC, or Vibram megagrip) / I guess that will come next year
@@trailandkale thanks for the confirmation on the Long Sky 2 matryx! I think I'm gonna have to pull the trigger when I able to sneak them in the house. Our trails here are super dry, I'm in Albuquerque, so I'm hoping the traction on the Kiger 9 will work for me. Thanks for your in put and your reviews. Your channel is one of the best for us gear nerds
@victorystone1984 thanks so much, I really appreciate that! Please share it with your run friends! I could use all the exposure I can get! :)
Credit to you for creating content however, I' m struggling to see how you can give a quality review after\ during 1 run? It takes a good 50 miles to form a balanced opinion regards a shoes performance.
Well, when you’ve tested and reviewed as many shoes as I have over the last 10 years, experience is everything. Sometimes I know after one highly varied (in terrain and in vert gain/loss) 10k trail run, sometimes a shoe needs longer for me to form an opinion. I determine that after my first run along my test route.
Just found your account. Apperciate the level of detail you provide. Very usefull.
Thanks Mikkol! Appreciate it! ✌🏼
i want to love this: soft midsole, premium upper. but the good things are also their downside: its softness makes my foot ache and the upper are so thick its too hot to wear.
Ah that’s a shame you didn’t get on well with them, are you looking for something a bit more responsive so the a more lightweight upper? I can recommend a few if you’d like?
Salomon s/lab phantasm 2; just like it mentions in the vid above the title?😅
Bah… well yes, ok I guess linking that video review gave the game away a little!! 😝 congrats, here’s your reward: 🏆
@@trailandkale I also want me free dose of 'nothing' please ;)
@jeroen1989 oh did you not get that earlier? Check your inbox… you’ll see something 0 pixels squared in there. 😝
I’m the LS Prodigio. Light, nimble, can go anywhere shoe.
Ohh I like it! Also, that shoe review is coming soon! :)
@@trailandkale awesome! Hoping you tested it. It has really grown on me over the last months. I’ve got 100+ miles in my first pair and they are holding up well in CO rugged terrain.
It does seem like it’s going to be a great shoe on first impressions
Air max 270’s
Nope 😝
I found a pair of these in my size on sale for $80 on the nike website. As you said, they fit true to size and I'm really pleased with them so far.
Oh man that’s a steal!! Glad you’re enjoying them! ✌🏼
When comparing to Pegasus 40, is there a big difference on road?
Great question! For the most part they feel very similar on the roads… the peg trail 5 feels a little flatter under the forefoot though as there’s no zoom X unit under there like the Peg 41 has BUT the peg trail 5 feels softer (more cushioned) elsewhere (under the midfoot and heel) due to the higher stack height in that area. Peg trail 5 has much better traction should you hit wet roads, or dirt roads. I’ll publish a community post on our channel in a minute just for you..
@@trailandkale Wow, thank you very much man, I appreciate it.
You’re welcome!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Paris edge. I’ve found in last versions the edge+ was better for me at least in any race at half marathon or under. I used the saucony pro 2 in my last full as I was worried about how firm the edge+ was for a full, but it may of been fine and just beat up my legs more after😂 Good review, I found the original Sky to be fantastic when I was on my game running wise.
Hey @ericwj7! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I haven’t reviewed the Edge yet, but it’s in my line up! I have read that the Edge Paris is a solid choice for shorter races, especially if you liked the Edge+ for those distances. The firmer ride of the Edge Paris will definitely be tougher on the legs during a full marathon, so I understand your hesitation - if you have a high cadence running style it may suit you well though... I know I’d definitely prefer more cushioning in my mara shoes. The latest Saucony Endorphin Pro (v4) is a great shoe (recently reviewed it on the channel), but yeah, finding the right balance for long distances can be tricky. The original Sky is fantastic when you're in peak form, for sure. I'll definitely share more detailed thoughts on the Paris Edge as soon as I get hold of them. My fav Mara/super shoe right now is the Cielo x1 (ruclips.net/video/eZsSWvC1XDs/видео.htmlsi=m8ncP1rUuj4mhGK2) - and here are my other favorites in order of how they performed in my reviews: www.trailandkale.com/gear/best-carbon-plate-running-shoes/ -Alastair
@@trailandkale Thank you!
I’m the Altra Timp 5. I relish being a little different, enjoy the bright colorways and have good running endurance 😅
lol I like it!
Tried these in stores and man they feel good. Had to cop a pair for my upcoming AZ/UTAH trip
I’m so happy to see Nike making positive changes to the Peg Trail at last. Have a great trip! 🏜️
this guy brags too much about how much he runs lol we get it.
Unfortunately I have to because nowadays there are a lot of reviewers who don’t really do that much running. It’s good for viewers to know who they’re taking advice from.
I’m really getting into topo trail shoes I need the wide toe box I recently got a pair of the ultra venture 3 and I love them
They’re going places for sure! Have you tried Altra too?
@@trailandkale yes I like they’re road shoes I’ve had problems with the trail line up
Did you try the Lone Peaks, or Timps?
@@trailandkale I’ve ran in the lone peak 4.5,5 and 6 and after 50 miles the midsole feels like a flat tire I’ve been tempted to try the new timp
Thanks for the review. It’s been a long time La Sportiva has been making the same kind trail running shoes with only subtle improvements. Have you or are you going to review Saucony Xodus Ultra 3?
You’re welcome, hope you enjoyed it! The Xodus Ultra is on my list, I need to ask Saucony for a pair 👍🏼
@@trailandkale thanks looking forward to that
You should try the Prodigio by La Sportiva. Total overhaul in design and super critical foam midsole is awesome.
Go for this one or get a deal on the v2?
Let me know what shoe you are! ;) And if you have any questions feel free to drop them here - and as a reminder, if you have specific requirements for your running shoes, let me know what they are and I'll get you hooked up with your perfect pair! -Alastair
Thanks!
Thanks so much - I’ve never had a super before! 🙏🏻
@@trailandkale I’m really enjoying your channel, great reviews!
@TyAtwater thank you, appreciate that! ✌🏼
I want to like Brooks! Their color schemes are just meh. I prefer Saucony. They are much preferable.
Brooks are starting to put out some funky colorways now. I quite like how the Hyperion Max 2 looks. Check it out
Dude your hats are awesome! Where do you get them from?
Most of them are from a brand called Janji. ✌🏼
These comments are crazy, these are one of the most durable comfortable sandals on the market. I’ve had these for 7 years and I’ve taken them all over the world. Just dropped money on the $120 leather pairs which are even more durable.
I agree, I'm still wearing mine and they holding up really well
How much does it weigh? I've seen different weights online?
30lbs for this size. More info in my in-depth review here: www.trailandkale.com/gear/orca-cooler-review-40-quart/
Let me know if you have any questions on these, or just say hi! :) Also, if you have specific requirements for you running shoes, just let me knoiw and I'll get you hooked up with the best pair for you! -Alastair
Damn these look really nice though!
Great review! Any comments on sizing? Are they true to size or need to size up?
Hey there! They’re true to size
I was looking for hiking shoes and was thinking of these (it was one of the few options in my size). I won't do trail running for now but i was wondering if the front material will be a problem for a rocky terrain.
They should be good for hiking! You should also consider the Cloudultra 2 and Speedgoat 6. Both reviews are on our channel
@@trailandkale thank you!
welcome!
Love my endorphin speeds. Best shoe that ive ever ran in. And ive tried alot. Brooks launch would be 2nd.
These ones really surpassed my expectations! So did the Launch 10 for that matter. You get so much for the money with both of them
Would this be a good all round shoe for hiking? I love hokas, never got the 5s… got the Salomon thundercross which are great but I think I bought half size too small coz I wanted them snug for running… so just looking for a good walking hiking shoe… would you recommend this or something else?
These would be great for hiking, they are my top choice for it in fact 👍🏼
I’d recommend sizing up a half size
Perfect thank you so much
@MikeyMoran you’re welcome!
Great review!! I also really appreciate how active you are answering everyone’s questions in the comments!
Thank you! I do my best! 😄✌🏼
How are they sizeing?

I'm running with the Launch8. Best running shoes.
Such an amazing price for these shoes!
big 🧠 move thanks boss

@trailandkale, im looking to buy my first trail shoes, my daily shoe is a nike pegasus, my road race shoe is a super aggresive mizuno wave rebellion 2 which i really love super bouncy. I like the look of speed goat 6, zegama 2 and merrell agility peak 5 (ive always had merrell walking shoes) What would be your pick? Or any other suggestions? Thanks
Should also add I usually run under 10ks, my local park run is gravel, I may do longer distance in future but would be rare
Hey there, thanks for all that information! Based on the shoes you currently enjoy and the running you like to do I'd recommend you give the Speedgoat 6 a try! That said, the Zegama 2 and AP5 are both great trail running shoes too! The Brooks Catamount 3 is also a good one but a mit more responsive, but not as cushioned.
all those shoes have been reviewed on the channel if you'd like to learn more about them
@trailandkale thanks super helpful, yeah I have watched them all but seemed like you liked them all so was wondering which you liked best 😂
lol yeah they’re all good ones for sure! 🤣
